Georgina von Benza
Rhein-Main Presse ;  June 2002 Andrea Chénier i/ Wiesbaden

Also Georgina von Benza has been a member of the local ensemble for some
years. With her dark soprano and flowing piano , Maddalena develops her
characters scene after scene: first the aristocrat playing capriciously with
Chénier, provoking him with a teasing accent- then the passionately inflamed one, who
like Puccini's "Tosca", offers her body to the enemy to rescue the beloved.
In the famous report "La mamma morta" about the extermination of her family and
the vision of the angel, Benza perfectly manages to rise from the darkest of
memories to ecstasy. The love-duets, especially the flare-up in the final
scene with Chénier before heading for the scaffold were vocal high-lights of the
Night.

A critic for the Frankfurt "Times" writes about Georgina von Benza,
soprano of the Munich opera-house: "Her singing is like spherical music from heaven
in angelic purity. The recent performance of the opera Aida in Beijing gave
us an impression of these heavenly sounds. With her incomparable piano high c
in the aria "o patria mia" she reaches the climax of perfection". A number of
Chinese sopranos, with whom we spoke were full of admiration for the
unblemished art of Benza's singing.
