Georgina von Benza

Born in Karpat-Ukraina, the hungarian Soprano Georgina von Benza received her musical Education at the Peter Tschaikowski Academy of Music in Kiev and at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. Her first engagement were in Operahouse Gelsenkirchen and Hessisches State Theater Wiesbaden. Afterwards she became a permanent member of the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. She studied the lirico-spinto repertoire with Renata Scotto in New York and in Italy. Since 1998 she has been working as a free-lance artist.

Georgina von Benza received numerous prizes at international singing competitions, including the Mozart prize at the Belvedere competition in Vienna, as well as second prize at the Mozart competition in Salzburg and the "Giulietta Simionato" extra prize at the Erkel-Kodaly competition in Budapest. Her repertoire includes the leading Lirico-spinto roles. She sings her parts in german, italian, english, russian and hungarian.

Von Benza sings as guest at many Opera houses, e.g. Frankfurt, Cologne, Helsinki, Kopenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin (Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper Unter den Linden). She appears at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Capetown opera (South Africa), Barcelona (Gran teatro del Liceu), Teatro Amazona Manaus, (Brazil). She sang Puccini’s Tosca as a co-production with Teatro Colon Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Verdi’s Aida at "Teatro di Roma in 2000 " with Marcello Viotti. In 2001 she sang two concerts in Bamberg with the "Bamberger Sinfoniker".

In August 2001 she was invited on tour in Japan (Tokyo and Kanagawa). At the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the Staatstheater Mannheim she sang Abigaille in Nabucco. Another tour with Mstislav Rostropovic in February 2002 brought her to Spain (Valencia, Alicante, Castellon).

In November 2003 she recorded "Verdi Arias" with the Radio Sinfonie Orchester, Bratislava, conducted by Marco De Prosperis. At the Teatro Argentina in Rome she sang "the last four songs” by Richard Strauss in December 2002. Her concert with the Bayerischen Rundfunk Orchester Munich was transmitted in TV. In December 2002 she sang Arie del Verismo with Maestro Marcello Viotti and joined a new production of Nabucco at the Staatstheater Hannover. In February 2003 she recorded another CD Richard Strauss’ works, "Orchestra Songs" with the Radio Orchester Saarbrücken. In September 2003 she sang "Aida" in Beijing in a colossal production sponsored by the Chinese government at the Workerstadion (180.000 audience). October 2004 she sang at the Tokyo Opera City Hall and the Bunkamura Concert Hall in Japan (Gala Performance of Giuseppe Verdi, Aida with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra). She sang in Riga in 2005 (Baltic Opera Festival - Giuseppe Verdi, Aida) and in 2006 she gave Gala Concerts of Nabucco/Abigaille at the Rudolf Oetker Halle Bielefeld, Germany. In September 2007 she sung in State Operahouse Budapest Verdi's Nabucco/Abigaille and Puccinis Tosca with DVD production. In October 2007 she sung in a new production of Giuseppe Verdis Don Carlos/Elisabetta in State Operahouse Nürnberg. In April 2009 was released a new Puccini Arias CD and a DVD of Tosca. 2008 she sang Madama Butterfly in Puccini Festival in State Opera Lviv and in 2009 a live broadcast Concert of J. Massenet Herodiade, the role of Salome. She sang 2009 in „Peter Dvorsky“ Operafestival, 2010 in State Opera Lviv a „Tosca“ produktion and a Gala (110 year anniversary). 2010 and 2011 Produktion in Bratislava Opera and „Tosca“ produktion in Budapest State Opera. 2012 tournee in China Beijing, Tianjin, Xiang and 2013 in State Opera Budapest a new produktion of „Don Carlos“ where she sang the role of Elisabetta.
